Carole Jones, an experienced designer goldsmith, will teach you how to coax a unique 3-D design from a piece of ordinary carving wax. Below are a few great examples of jewellery created by Carole. Take a look to start your creative juices flowing!
Carole will provide a finished ring as an example to follow and guide you through her process to create a wax model of this ring.
You will learn how to saw, file, refine and ultimately…..create your own distinctive designs in wax. Once they are finished to your satisfaction, you can arrange with Don Bell or Dana Grund to have them cast into silver, or gold. This is a great technique for anyone looking to develop their skills or expand their jewellery production. It is perfect for mini-production runs. By creating just one piece in wax you can begin the mold making process and finally, order many duplicate items to be cast.
This class starts from the beginning and covers everything you need to set up in creating your own collections in wax from your home or small studio. There are relatively few tools and materials needed to work with wax and the results are truly amazing.
This course will accommodate beginners as well as seasoned jewellers, so you do not need any previous experience in wax or any other type of jewellery making.
If time allows it, on Sunday Carole can give an additional demonstration on a fun freehand lathe wax carving (great for making wedding bands) OR answer questions/troubleshoot your design ideas.
Bring your lunch.
